OSPREY HOLIDAY CENTRE
History:

The centre's buildings were originally built as an Anti Submarine Detection Base and occupied during WW2. The locals on the Island refer to the centre as the Hush Hush as it was a "Top Secret" defence base.

Challenge Anneka :

In 1990 a successfull application was made to the Challenge Anneka TV programme and this resulted in the dilapidated buildings being renovated. Our photo gallery has an image of Anneka Rice arriving by helicopter and using her buggy on the island. The centre was  opened in 1991 and has continued to be hired to community groups and families for holidays.

Location  & General info:

The centre is located 5 miles from Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae, Ayrshire and is reached by a 10 minute ferry journey from Largs using Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries.  On reaching the island, take a right turn and follow the road for 1.5 miles to the centre.  There is adequate parking space for 6 cars.
The centre is self contained and your nearest neighbour is the Fintry Bay cafe 1.5 miles away. The cottage and sports hall have excellent views overlooking the Clyde estuary towards the Isle of Bute.

Caretaker:

Our Caretaker Paul Watling lives in Millport and he maintains the property and grounds, however we expect all user groups to leave the centre and grounds clean and tidy.
